About SeniorDefend

We started this site because of a phone call.

A grandmother picked up the phone. The voice on the other end claimed to be her grandson — scared, in trouble, needing money fast. She wired $4,200 before anyone in the family knew what happened.

It wasn’t her fault. The scam was convincing, the urgency was real, and nobody had ever warned her it could happen.

That call — a version of which happens thousands of times every day across America — is why SeniorDefend exists.

Who we’re here for

We write for the 40-something son who wants to protect his retired parents but doesn’t know where to start. For the daughter who set up her mom’s email years ago and now worries every time there’s a news story about scams. For anyone who loves someone over 60 and wants to do something concrete about it.

We don’t write for security professionals. We don’t use jargon. We don’t assume you know what a VPN is before we explain why your parents might need one.

Our job is simple: take the overwhelming world of cybersecurity tools and tell you exactly what’s worth your time — and your parents’ patience.

How we make recommendations

Every product we review gets evaluated on three questions:

Does it actually work? We test tools against the real threats targeting seniors today — phishing emails, fake tech support calls, identity theft, dark web exposure.

Can a non-technical person use it? A product with a confusing setup or cluttered interface doesn’t make our list, no matter how good its specs look on paper.

Is it worth the price? We compare what you get against what you pay, and we’re honest when something isn’t worth it.

We update our recommendations every quarter. Scam tactics evolve constantly, and advice that was solid eighteen months ago may not be today.

Our affiliate policy — no fine print

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. That means if you click through and purchase a product, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you.

We want to be completely upfront about this: affiliate revenue is how we keep the site running and the reviews free.

What it does not do is influence our rankings. We have declined to promote higher-paying products because we didn’t believe in them. We have recommended free tools with no commission because they were the right answer. If a product we recommend stops being the best option, we remove it — regardless of what it pays us.

You have our word on that.
